We’re recruiting new trustees and a Secretary to join the RUSS Board in summer 2022. Trustees drive our vision to build sustainable communities of genuinely affordable homes in neighbourhoods across London, working with our staff, residents and volunteers.

About RUSS

RUSS is a Community Land Trust building sustainable, permanently affordable and community-led housing in London. We’re currently developing a 36-home scheme in Lewisham, driven by a community of future residents. We share the lessons from our project work through the RUSS School of Community-Led Housing. Over 1,000 members and volunteers contribute to our mission, including through helping to design and build our Community Hub in 2019.

The roles

Trustees are responsible for ensuring that RUSS fulfils its charitable duties by delivering our on our vision. Trustees set our overall strategic direction and monitor performance to ensure we remain an effective and sustainable organisation. In addition to attending board meetings and away days, trustees bring their energy and commitment to help further RUSS’s mission. Depending on your capacity and interests, this might involve leading projects, sitting on Board sub-committees or contributing to specific areas of our work like fundraising or communications.

The Secretary sits on the Board as a trustee. They work closely with the Chair, trustees and our staff to drive the effective governance and operation of the organisation, overseeing the roles and activities of the board to ensure that RUSS is keeping in line with its charitable responsibilities.

Who we’re looking for

We’re particularly keen to welcome applicants with experience in any of the following areas: governance, housing management, housing development, organisational development, HR, communications, law, IT and fundraising.

Above all, we want Trustees who are committed to our aims and are willing to put in some real time to help us achieve them! RUSS seeks to reflect the community it operates in, and would welcome applications from women and people who are disabled, LGBTQ+ or from ethnic minority groups.
